Description
A pair of houses with attached area railings, dating to 1827-1833 and altered in the late 19th and 20th centuries. They are part of a row of six pairs of houses connected by single-storey links, now garages. The buildings were probably designed by PF Robinson and built for the fourth Duke of Newcastle as part of an early development scheme for Castle Park. The construction is stucco, with a slate roof and coped gables. Four plain side wall stacks are present. Features include a plinth, eaves cornice, and coped parapet. The windows are glazing bar sashes, with moulded surrounds, cornices to the ground floor, and bracketed sills above. The houses are two storeys plus a basement and garrets, with a four-window range. A projecting double porch is centrally positioned, featuring a cornice, parapet, and two fielded six-panel doors flanked by pilasters. Each return to the porch has a round-arched window. To the right is a round-cornered bay window, two storeys high, with a sash on each floor. To the left is a single sash window. Above, three sashes are present. Outside, flanking the porch, are cast-iron spearhead area railings and gates.
