Description
A pair of houses, numbers 7 and 8, with attached area railings, built between 1827 and 1833 as part of a row of six matching pairs linked by single-storey structures, now garages. The buildings were likely designed by PF Robinson and constructed for the fourth Duke of Newcastle, and are part of an early development scheme for Castle Park. They are constructed of stucco, with a slate roof and coped gables. The design includes four plain side wall stacks, a plinth, an eaves cornice, and a coped parapet. The windows are glazing bar sashes with moulded surrounds, cornices to the ground floor, and bracketed sills above. The houses have two storeys plus a basement and garrets, and feature a four-window front. A projecting double porch sits centrally, adorned with a cornice and parapet. This porch has two fielded six-panel doors flanked by pilasters, and the returns feature round-arched windows. Single windows are located on either side of the porch. Above the porch are four smaller windows. Outside, cast-iron spearhead area railings and gates flank the porch.
