Description
A pair of houses with attached area railings, built between 1827 and 1833, and altered in the late 19th and 20th centuries. They were likely designed by PF Robinson and constructed by William Patterson for the fourth Duke of Newcastle as part of an early development scheme for Castle Park. The houses are stucco-built with a slate roof and coped gables, featuring four plain side wall stacks. They have a plinth, eaves cornice, and coped parapet. The windows are glazing bar sashes, with moulded surrounds, cornices to the ground floor, and bracketed sills above. The houses are two and three storeys plus a basement and attics, with a four-window range. A projecting double porch sits in the centre, with a cornice and parapet, featuring two fielded six-panel doors flanked by pilasters. Each return to the porch includes a round-arched window, above which are two sashes and a box dormer. To either side of the porch are canted bay windows, two storeys high, each containing three sashes. The left-hand bay window incorporates an additional storey with a small sash flanked by blank spaces, topped with a hipped roof. Flanking the porch on the exterior are cast iron spearhead area railings and gates.
