Description

Ratcliffe Lodge is a house built in 1897 by Joseph Goddard of Leicester. It is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings and features a graduated Swithland slate roof with raised coped gables and moulded ashlar kneelers. The building has a blue brick plinth and stands two storeys plus an attic.

The north-facing street front has a projecting central wing topped with a gable and ball finials. On the ground floor, there is a 5-light cross casement window, and above it, a 4-light casement window, both with segment heads. To the left, there is an integral coach house with double doors and a glazing bar overlight, along with two 3-light through eaves dormer windows above. Set back to the right in the return angle, there is a single external stack and a canted bay window with 3-light cross casements. To the right, a panelled door leads to a pillared verandah over steps down to the basement, with a single 2-light casement window. Above, there are a 2-light and a 4-light casement window at the eaves.

On the south garden front, there is a central square bay window with 5 sashes, where the upper sashes have glazing bars. A hipped slate roof extends to the left to cover a verandah with three sets of French windows, a 4-light casement window to the right, and a small single-storey gabled wing beyond. Above, there are two 5-light casement windows with segment beads and a single 3-light casement window to the right. The attic features paired 4-light dormer windows.

Inside, the property contains the original baluster staircase, contemporary doors, and some fireplaces.
