Description
Block E, also known as the former College Hall at the University of Leicester, is a social block built between 1958 and 1960, designed by Sir Leslie Martin and Trevor Dannatt. The building features buff brick, concrete, and timber cladding, topped with a flat roof.
It is two storeys high and has a square plan, with a narrow central courtyard that includes a circular brick staircase. The ground floor is recessed in parts and features some floor-to-ceiling windows, while strip windows are located above. The window frames are made of timber, and the interior showcases exposed brick. A notable feature is the double-height space in the Junior Common Room. This building is an integral part of the former College Hall layout.
