Description

This building, consisting of numbers 8 and 10 Millstone Lane, dates from the late 19th century and is built in a Gothic style. It is constructed of red brick with stone dressings. The building is three storeys high, with five windows facing Millstone Lane, four windows facing Berridge Street, and a single window at the splayed angle between the two streets. Two gables rise through the parapet on each elevation, with a further gable featuring a circular panel at the angle. The ground floor has been completely modernised with cement rendering and plate glass windows. The first floor features single-light and two-light moulded pointed arch windows with pilaster shafts. A splayed oriel window is positioned at the angle. The second floor has two-light pointed arch windows set within brick pointed arch recesses, each with a carved circular panel above. Between these are rectangular windows with shouldered heads and carved stone imposts, rising into the gables. The roof is slate-covered, with large brick chimney stacks topped with heavy stone caps.
