Description
Saxone is a building located on Broad Street, dating from around 1860. It features a tall, four-storey Tudor-Gothic frontage constructed of painted brick with stone dressings. The front is characterized by two shaped gables, which have corbelled finials and moulded caps, setting a tone for later developments in Broad Street. The gables contain cusped arches that frame recessed stone mullion windows on the second and third floors, which are fitted with plate glass sashes in two and three lights, and have labels above them. A squarish balustrade is present on the second floor. On the first floor, there are two pairs of cross windows, also with labels above, each pair flanking a cusped-headed niche with a stand. The building has cusped-headed gutter mouths, with the left rainwater head retaining a scalloped capital shape. The roof is covered with slate and features a crested ridge. There is a modern shop front at the ground level.
