Description

The wall and railing on the east side of Duffield Road, built around 1905, is a stone retaining wall that supports an elevated section of pavement along the roadway. It extends approximately 380 yards north from the junction with Belper Road. The wall rises from the north end to a height of 6 feet at the center, then decreases to 2 feet 6 inches at the south end. Atop the wall are tapered, knob-headed cast iron standards that are connected by a single rail and a spiked iron chain.
