Description

Handyside Arch Bridge, built in 1878 by Andrew Handyside and Company, Ironfounders of Derby, is located over the River Derwent. This former railway bridge, now used only for pedestrian traffic, features a deck that was originally designed to carry train tracks. The deck is supported by steel segmental arches that span approximately 130 feet and are constructed in a lattice design. The bridge is anchored by stone abutments and has parapet walls on either side.
