Description
No 18 St Mary's Gate is a former Judges' Lodging built in 1811. The building is constructed of red brick and has three storeys. It features two sash windows with triple keyblocks and channelled lintels, along with a stone sill band. The entrance has a moulded stone doorcase with a semi-circular head and a radial fanlight above a six-panelled door. The facade has been extended to create a forecourt for the County Hall, which includes seven windows and a doorcase with engaged Tuscan pilasters, a radial fanlight, a plain frieze, a cornice, and another six-panelled door. The building is topped with a moulded eaves cornice and a blocking course. No 18 is part of a group that includes Nos 10, 11, and 11A, the former Rural District Council Offices, the County Hall, the forecourt wall, gate piers, gates, and railings of the County Hall and Police Station.
