Description

16-17 Friar Gate is a 17th-century building made of brick with stone dressings. It stands three storeys high with attics in the gables and features eight windows, most of which have glazing bars. The building has four gables, each with one window, and includes stone floor bands that were once moulded cornices, as well as stone quoins and coping on the gables. There is a blocked stone mullioned window on the gable at the return side, and the roof has been restored with old tiles. The ground storey now has modern shop fronts, although it previously featured a prominent central doorway. Nos 16 to 23 form a group.
