Description

SOUTH KIRBY WHITE APRON STREET SE41SW (north side) 5/81 Barn approx. 10 metres - east of Ball Park Farmhouse GV II

Barn. Probably late C17 or early c18; altered. Coursed squared sandstone (and some brick patching at rear), corrugated sheet roof. Rectangular 5-bay plan. West side has central square-headed wagon entrance with timber lintel, wooden double doors, at each side 2 square pitching doors at loft level, and slit breathers on 2 levels; south gable wall has doorway near front corner, small window at low level to right, and slit breathers on 2 levels. Rear (partly rebuilt in brick), has wagon doorway blocked one blocked doorway at south end and 2 at north end. Interior: stone flagged threshing floor; 4 principal-rafter roof trusses of large scantling (one with raked struts), and 2 pairs of trenched purlins; former loft floors removed.
