Thornes DENBY DALE ROAD (West Side) Cattle Trough and Drinking Fountain immediately south-east of entrance to Clarence Park

Raised red granite trough. At north end a square column, with ball finial, holds basin and tap.

Inscription: This fountain is placed here by friends of Anne Clarkson of Westgate Bridge and by members of the RSPCA to commemorate her lifelong labours in the cause of humanity and in recognition of her untiring efforts to lessen the sufferings of dumb creatures, 1888.

On other side a verse from "The Ancient Mariner" by S J Coleridge exhorting to love and care for animals.
