Description
The cattle trough and drinking fountain, located immediately south-east of the entrance to Clarence Park, is made of raised red granite. At the north end, there is a square column topped with a ball finial that supports a basin and a tap.
The trough features an inscription that reads: "This fountain is placed here by friends of Anne Clarkson of Westgate Bridge and by members of the RSPCA to commemorate her lifelong labours in the cause of humanity and in recognition of her untiring efforts to lessen the sufferings of dumb creatures, 1888."
On the opposite side, there is a verse from "The Ancient Mariner" by Samuel Taylor Coleridge that encourages love and care for animals.
