Description

136 Westgate is a substantial, late 18th-century house of three storeys and five windows. The house is constructed of red brick with a stone fluted frieze and a modillioned eaves cornice beneath a low-pitched hip roof covered in Welsh slates. It features a stone plinth and a ground floor cill band. The recessed sash windows have glazing bars, stone cills, and are set within gauged flat brick arches. A four-step approach leads to a central, prostyle, pedimented Tuscan porch with urns and wreaths in the frieze, though the column bases are badly restored. The front door consists of six ornamental panels, a cornice head, and a radial fanlight within an architrave with impost blocks. A long, round-headed staircase window is located on the left return.
