Description
Austin House is an imposing late 18th century house located on the north side of Westgate. It features three storeys and an attic, with a total of nine windows. The five-bay centre of the building projects under a pediment. The eaves and pediment cornices are decorated with dentils and modillions, and there is a plain round window in the pediment. The house is constructed of red brick and has a hipped roof covered with modern tiles. The sash windows have gauged flat brick arches with fluted triple keystones and stone cills, with the windows on the second floor being shorter. The centre windows are set in a two-storey round-arched recess, with the first-floor window being a Venetian style that uses an enriched Ionic order. On the ground floor to the left, there is a modern door accessed by four replaced steps, framed by a doorcase with engaged fluted columns, an enriched entablature, and a pediment. The remainder of the ground floor has been converted into a modern showroom, and there is a carriage arch on the right side of the building.
