Description

Pemberton House is a large house built in the mid-18th century for Pemberton Milnes, which underwent refenestration in the early 19th century. It is constructed of light-coloured red brick and has three storeys with five bays facing Westgate to the southeast, while the other facades are irregular. The windows are primarily sashes with delicate glazing bars, set in openings that feature cambered arches and stone cills. The ground-floor eastern corner is cut away, accommodating a former corner-set doorway added in the late 19th century, with a cast iron column inserted for support. On the north-eastern elevation, there is a 19th-century six-panel door framed by a stone architrave, which is supported by scrolled consoles and topped with a pediment. The roof is fairly high-pitched and slightly swept, covered with stone slates. A later moulded timber cornice is present at the eaves of the Westgate elevation.
