Description

The Thornes Drinking Fountain, located about 50 meters west-north-west of the entrance to Clarence Park, is an octagonal structure built in 1893. It is accessed by four octagonal steps and features a thick, round column from which four basins extend, each situated under a pedimented alcove. The fountain showcases a classical design in sandstone, with grey granite panels between the alcoves. It is topped with a pointed roof. An inscription notes that it was erected as a memorial to the late Major Barker JP by the work-people of Thornes Mills.
