Description
This outbuilding, located approximately 4 metres south west of the rear of Lane Side Farmhouse, is likely an ash-house or cold-store dating from the early to mid 18th century. It is constructed from coursed squared sandstone and rubble, with a turf roof. The building is a single cell that is built into the slope at the rear and left side. It features a vaulted construction with a doorway in the gable end facing the house. The barrelled roof is also covered with turf. This outbuilding is noted as a good example of a simple structure, which is now a rare type.
