Description

Trinity Congregational Church, Sunday School, and Lodge is a Congregational church designed by George Francis Danby, featuring steps and an attached Sunday School and lodge. The building is constructed of rock-faced and plain ashlar with slate roofs and is designed in the Gothic Revival style, incorporating Perpendicular detailing.

The church is situated on a steeply-sloping corner site and includes a nave and chancel, low side aisles, and transepts. The exterior features a two-stage tower with a tall spire located near the north entrance porch and vestry. The Sunday School is positioned against the northwest side and is a long rectangular building in the same style, featuring a single-storey hall and two stone dormer windows on its northwest side. The lodge, which serves as a house for the minister or teacher, is located on the south side of the group and is plainer in design.

Notable features of the entire group include the west entrance to the church, which has stone steps with low flanking walls leading up to a gabled porch with carving in the tympanum. Above this entrance is a massive seven-light traceried window, and the church is adorned with octagonal corner turrets topped with pinnacles. The tower features two-light belfry windows, crocketed pinnacles, an embattled and panelled parapet, and a slender crocketed spire. The gable end of the school mirrors the church's design, showcasing a five-light window and corner turrets. The interior has not been inspected, and fittings have been removed. The lodge is a new addition to the listing.
