Description
Burley Wood Works is a building originally constructed as stables in the early 19th century, now serving as engineering works premises. It is made of coursed gritstone and features a low-pitched hipped slate roof. The structure has two storeys and five bays, with the central bay being wider than the others. A large round-arched carriageway, which has been glazed, is located at the center and is flanked by segmental-arched windows that have keyed lintels and plain sills. The upper floor includes round-arched windows with voussoirs and plain sills supported on brackets. The building also has gutter brackets and a small open pediment on brackets at the center. The interior has not been inspected. It is possibly the stables for Wanstead House, which was noted on an 1834 map but has since been demolished.
