Weir. Early C19. Gritstone. Approx 35m wide and 3m high. Bowed in plan, of graded slabs; flanking walls edge-tooled, the North East wall forming a revetment to the bank of the confluence of the Abbey and St Anne's Mills tail race with the river.
The weir is part of a major development of the river and millrace, probably to increase the volume of water at Burley Mills (qv). The weir creates a head of water which is also controlled by the ford/weir further upstream (qv), this stretch of the river probably straightened at the same time.
