Description
Nos. 36, 37, and 38 on Commercial Street in Leeds are a shop and chambers built in the early 20th century, specifically dated 1901, with some alterations made in the late 20th century. The building features a terracotta exterior and a slated and glazed roof. It stands four storeys tall on a corner site, with five first-floor windows facing Commercial Street and one window on the right return to Trinity Street.
The ground floor has a late 20th-century shop front. On the first floor, there are three curved plate-glass bay windows, with the upper part of the frame displaying surviving scrolled carvings. The roofs of these bays are embossed lead, and the outer windows are flat with terracotta panels above, featuring the words 'RECORD/ CHAMBERS' in relief. The second floor includes paired and single-light windows set in moulded surrounds, with decorative shields positioned between them. The building is topped with a balustraded parapet adorned with scrolled finials and a curved glass roof that has slates and roof lights above. The right return mirrors the front, featuring a curved bay and the original frame for the first-floor window. The interior has not been inspected.
