Description

No. 6 Lands Lane is a shop and storerooms built around 1900, with alterations made in the late 20th century. It was constructed for Joseph Longley, a bedding manufacturer and flock and feather merchant. The building features a steel frame with glazed and terracotta facades, and it stands four storeys tall on a corner site.

The second floor has four windows facing Lands Lane and Albion Place. The ground-floor shop windows were updated in the late 20th century but follow the original divisions. The first floor showcases full-height windows that likely retain their original glazing bars, with scrolled ogee forms to the transoms and curved glass at the corners, topped by a plain signboard.

On the second and third floors, tall rectangular windows are adorned with moulded corniced heads and frames that include carved transoms. A triglyph frieze and moulded cornice run along the top, with a pierced parapet displaying 'LONGLEY' on each facade, complemented by scrolled coping and ball finials. There is a moulded plaque on the second-floor corner. The right return of the building features similar details but has only one bay. The interior has not been inspected. It is noted that No. 26 Albion Place may have originally served as the offices for this shop, and in 1905, Joseph Longley also operated from Nos 22-26 New York Street.
