Description
Nos. 19, 21, and 23 Albion Place are shops and offices built in 1904, with alterations made in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of brick and terracotta and has a slate roof. It stands three storeys high with attics and features five bays in a Free Edwardian style with Classical details.
On the ground floor, there are plate-glass shop windows that follow the original divisions. The first floor has showroom windows with three lights, featuring original frames adorned with scrolled pediments on either side. The wide segmental arches above these windows are detailed with moulded voussoirs and a keystone, with pilasters that have moulded bases and capitals in between. The second floor includes paired and single sash windows, each with moulded and scrolled cornices, and a four-light window on the far right flanked by attached plain columns.
The attic storey showcases elaborate gables on the paired dormers at the centre, and a large Diocletian-style window on the far right, which is marked with the date 1904. At the rear of the building, there is an attached gas light on a bracket, featuring an automatic lighting system. The interior has not been inspected. The architectural details, such as the keyed voussoirs to arches, attached columns, and semicircular window, are similar to those found in the Grand Arcade on New Briggate and Nos 80-88 Vicar Lane.
