Description

SE 42 NW LEDSTON HALL LANE WF10 7/34 Gatepiers on former drive, 4th July 1952 approx. 150 metres north of Ledston Hall

GV II*

Gatepiers. Mid C18. Sandstone and magnesian limestone. A pair of very large inner piers approx. one metre square in section and approx. 8 metres high; moulded plinths, continuous vermiculated panel in each side of each pier, prominent moulded cornices, and elaborately carved urn finials. On the outer side of each is a scrolled console from which a short screen wall ramps down to a lower outer pier of simpler design, with a ball finial (that belonging to the eastern pier loose on the ground at the time of the resurvey).
