Description
The gatepiers, located approximately 150 metres north of Ledston Hall, date from the mid-18th century and are constructed from sandstone and magnesian limestone. They consist of a pair of very large inner piers, each about one metre square in section and approximately 8 metres high. The piers feature moulded plinths, a continuous vermiculated panel on each side, prominent moulded cornices, and elaborately carved urn finials. Each outer side has a scrolled console from which a short screen wall descends to a lower outer pier of simpler design, topped with a ball finial. At the time of the resurvey, the ball finial belonging to the eastern pier was found loose on the ground.
