The building at 4 Kirkgate dates to the 18th century. Only the stone slate roof and part of the upper storey remain, the rest having been replaced with a modern shop front. It is listed primarily as part of a group of buildings within the important Kirkgate streetscape, alongside Nos. 2 to 8 (even) and Nos. 20 and 22.
