Description
Compton Grove Farmhouse is an early 19th-century house built from large, well-coursed punch-dressed stone with a stone slate roof. It has two storeys and a three-bay symmetrical facade. The doorway features an overlight glazed as a fanlight and a flat arch with voussoirs. Each bay has windows with flat arches and projecting sills; the outer bays contain 16-pane sash windows, while the central first-floor bay has a 12-pane sash window. There is a stone stack on the right gable and a later 19th-century brick stack on the left gable, likely added at the same time as a non-special interest extension to the left.
Inside, the doorway opens into a stair hall that features a closed string single-flight stair with a turned newel and simple stick balusters, along with raised-and-fielded panelling beneath the stairs. The rooms on either side have been much altered but still retain panelled window shutters.
