Description

This is a milepost located approximately 20 metres east of the drive to Swinnow Hill, dating from the late 19th century. It was made by Brayshaw and Booth of Liversedge. The milepost is constructed from cast iron and is fixed on a gritstone pillar. It features angled sides and a sloping top plate beneath a round-headed panel. The raised lettering on the upper panel reads "COLLINGHAM & YORK ROAD / WETHERBY." The left side indicates distances to Wetherby (1 mile), Collingham (3 miles), and Leeds (14 miles). The right side shows the distance to York (12 miles).
