Description
Nos. 50 and 52 Upper Wellhouse are early to mid 19th century weavers' houses constructed from hammer-dressed stone with a pitched stone slate roof. The buildings are three storeys high with a basement and feature a coped gable to the southwest on moulded footstones.
On the southeast elevation, the basement includes an entrance with stone surrounds, and there are three 2-light stone mullioned windows, although one mullion has been removed. The ground floor has an entrance with a stone surround and tie-stones, two 5-light stone mullioned windows, one 2-light stone mullioned window, and one single light window. The first floor features one 3-light stone mullioned window, one 8-light stone mullioned window, one 2-light stone mullioned window, and one 7-light stone mullioned window. The second floor has one 17-light stone mullioned window, one 2-light stone mullioned window, and one 6-light stone mullioned window.
The northwest elevation has a ground floor that is back to earth. The first floor contains three entrances with stone surrounds and tie-stones, with one entrance blocked and one later entrance added. The second floor has one 2-light stone mullioned window.
On the southwest elevation, the ground floor has an entrance with stone surrounds and tie-stones, along with one blocked 2-light stone mullioned window. The first floor has one 2-light stone mullioned window with a removed mullion and another 2-light stone mullioned window that has been blocked. The second floor features one blocked 3-light stone mullioned window.
