Description
Nos 33, 35, 37, and 39 on Totties Lane is a large H-plan house, now divided into four dwellings, dating from 1684. It is constructed of hammer-dressed millstone grit and features a stone slate roof with chamfered gable copings on moulded kneelers and small parapets. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a symmetrical facade that includes a continuous drip moulding above the ground and first floor windows. All windows are double chamfered.
The central part of the house consists of three bays, with a central doorway that has an arched, shaped lintel inscribed with "I H K" (for Jackson). There are cross windows to the left and right on both floors, and a single light window above the door. Each side of the central section has a two-bay gabled cross-wing, each with cross windows on both floors and a single cross window in the attics. The right wing has had its mullions and transoms removed from both attic windows. There is a later doorway on the left wing.
The right elevation features twin gables and a single-storey stone porch with a doorway that has a shaped lintel dated 1684. The porch has a parapet with a stone spout and one two-light double chamfered window with the mullion removed. Adjacent to the porch is an entrance with a deep, arched lintel and a stone canopy supported by a moulded support on the left. The rear elevation has been altered and includes two single-storey extensions, though several original windows remain. The interior has not been inspected.
