Description

The Second Hall, located to the southwest of Lees Hall, is a 17th-century house that was added to the former west wing of the main hall and is now detached and used for storage. The building features a deeply coursed ashlar facade with a plinth and a stone slate roof that has hollow chamfered copings on the left side. It is two storeys high with a rectangular plan and consists of three bays. The windows are double chamfered, with a prominent 12-light mullioned and transomed window with a hood mould and gable above it on the first floor to the left. Below this window are a 4-light window, a 2-light window, and a chamfered doorway, all under a common hood mould. To the right of the doorway is another entrance with a neatly cut triangular lintel, and above it is a 2-light window. The building has a good projecting chimney breast with a square ashlar stack set diagonally. To the right, there is a single bay with a 5-light window on the ground floor and a 4-light window on the first floor, both featuring hood moulds. The left gable has a broad projecting chimney breast but no stack, while the other walls are mainly from the 19th century.

Inside, the roof is supported by six king post trusses with two purlins on each pitch, and the king posts are braced to the ridge. An upper room once had plasterwork similar to that found in the main hall. The building is listed for its group value with Thornhill Lees Hall.
