Description
Thornhill Lees Church of England School is a church school designed by Mallinson and Healey, dated 1858 on the rear wing. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone with ashlar dressings and features steeply pitched gabled slate roofs, along with a small ashlar bell-cote. The building is single storey with a symmetrical facade that includes gabled cross-wings at each end. Each cross-wing has a 4-light window topped with an ashlar tympanum that is pierced with a circle containing a 6-pointed star. The facade has seven central bays, with the 2nd and 5th bays being gabled and featuring larger 6-light mullioned and transomed windows that extend into the gable above the eaves. There is a recent single storey flat-roofed extension in front of the left wing, which is connected by a porch. Additionally, there is a hipped wing to the rear left and a 2-storey gabled block to the rear right. The school is included for its group value only.
