DEWSBURY CB LEES HOUSE ROAD SE 22 SW (Thornhill Lees)

School and School Master's House. Circa 1858. Pitch-faced stone with ashlar dressings. Slate roofs with copings on large cut kneelers. Two good ornamental stacks. Single storey except for the 2-storey house. Near-symmetrical design. Cross-wing to left and right, the former projecting. Each cross-wing contains a 3-light window with hood which continues over stilted arched tympanum to centre light. The tympanum has incised decoration. In each gable apex is the Savile coat of arms and motto BE FAST. Wrought iron decorative finial to each apex. The centre part has a projecting open porch, to right, up 5 steps, with engaged colonnettes with foliage capitals supporting a moulded, cusped arch. To the left is a 6-light window with king mullion and similarly detailed to the windows of the cross- wings. The right return is similarly treated and at the rear the 2-storey house is in the same style.
