Description
Over Hall is a detached house dated 1721, although it has earlier origins and underwent extensive alterations in the 19th century. The building is constructed from hammer-dressed stone, with some parts being thinly coursed, and features rusticated ashlar quoins. It has a three-gabled slate roof with gable copings supported by large moulded kneelers.
The entrance front has three bays, each topped with a gable, and the central gable is stepped. There is a straight joint between the central and left bays. A central stone and glass porch, likely from the 20th century, leads into the house. On either side of the porch are large tripartite windows, each with a raised surround, cornice, and glazing bars. The first-floor windows are single-light with raised surrounds and a cornice above the center light, all featuring sashes and glazing bars. To the left, there is a fragment of an earlier double-chamfered window with a transom.
The garden front has four bays with sash windows similar to those on the entrance front. There is a double door that is panelled, with an ashlar tripartite panel above it, featuring fielded panels. The central panel contains a sundial with an iron gnomon and a painted face inscribed with "S R H 1721." One window on the right has been altered to serve as a later doorway. A recent addition has been made to the rear of the house.
