Description

Ivy Lodge is a detached house mainly built in the mid 19th century, but it also includes evidence of 17th or early 18th century timberwork. The left wing was altered in the 18th century. The building features hammer-dressed stone with quoins on the wing and part of it is rendered. It has a stone slate roof with tall brick gable stacks and moulded stone brackets supporting the gutter. The house is two storeys high and has a three-bay main front with large 19th century sash windows that have glazing bars. The central door consists of four panels. At the rear, there is a continuous outshut with two altered, two-light double chamfered windows.

Inside, there is evidence of some early timberwork at the back of the house, including two large cambered tie-beams in the upper rooms. The interior has been mainly modernised.

Joseph Ismay, the vicar of Mirfield, lived in the house as his vicarage from 1740 until his death in 1778, and it was also used by later vicars.
