Description

1 and 2 New House are a detached house dating from the mid-19th century, built in a vernacular revival style. The southwest elevation is of hammer-dressed stone, with a rendered finish; the northeast elevation is of more regular design. The roof is of stone slate, with coped gables and gable stacks.

The southwest elevation features a variety of single-light openings with modern casements. The northeast elevation is symmetrical, with a central ground-floor doorway having chamfered surrounds and a Tudor arched head. To either side of the doorway are two 2-light stone mullioned windows. A continuous hood moulding covers the ground-floor openings. The first floor has a single 10-light stone mullioned window, with chamfered surrounds, and a continuous hood moulding above. A single-storey extension to the northwest gable has a pitched stone slate roof and single-light openings to either side of a doorway with a Tudor arched head. The southeast gable has a pronounced central chimney stack and single-light openings at first floor level either side.
