Description

A group of three houses dated 1853, built in a vernacular revival style. The houses are constructed from hammer-dressed stone with ashlar dressings, and have a pitched blue slate roof covered by coped gables resting on carved footstones. They feature two large chimney stacks with moulded ashlar copings. The buildings are two and three storeys high.

The north elevation has three gables projecting forward. The two outer wings each contain one four-light stone mullioned window on each floor, with a hood moulding over each light and a pointed arched head to each window. The apex of these two outer gables features an ashlar motif with two round bosses bearing carved crosses. The central gable has a doorway with deep ashlar reveals and a Tudor arched head, also with a hood mould. A two-light stone mullioned window sits above the doorway, with matching detailing. An ashlar cross motif with the date 1853 is set in the apex of this gable. Between the gables at ground level are two large windows in an ashlar surround, likely part of later infill extensions. At first floor level are two three-light stone mullioned windows, from which the mullions have been removed. A doorway with a chamfered ashlar surround and a Tudor arched head is located at the west end, with a later window set above. The east gable provides a doorway with a chamfered ashlar surround and a Tudor arched head, with a single light set above and a drip moulding.

The south elevation includes projecting wings to the left and right, and a gabled central part. It mainly features two-light windows with removed mullions. The north elevation’s mullioned windows have stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
