8/57 Dewsbury Baptist Church, at junction with Manor Street

Gothic Revival Baptist church. Opened Dec. 7th 1871, extended 1923. Pitch-faced stone with ashlar dressings. Slate roof. 5-bay buttressed nave with gable facade. To the right is square tower with splay-footed octagonal ashlar spire with lucarnes. To the left is square squat tower with hipped roof. The facade has a 3-bay arcaded and gabled porch on squat red granite columns with foliage capitals. The arcade contains the central door and flanking 2-light traceried windows. Above the porch is a large 6-light traceried window with triple arches to head. The tower to right is 3-tier with paired lancet window to 2nd tier and 3-light traceried window to 3rd tier. Deep corbel table and small moulded cornice. support the spine. To the left of the facade is an entrance to single storey ancillary accommodation, within an open, 3-bay, arcaded porch similar to that of main entrance. The side elevation windows are paired lancets with a circle in the head and rise above eaves in gabled dormers with wrought iron finials.
A lower addition to the west gable has transept-like 2-storey wings to north and south for ancillary accommodation. Raking gallery at rear of church. School room under church.
