Description
The Station Hotel is a public house, formerly an hotel, built in the restrained late 19th century Baroque style. It features ashlar stonework, with the ground floor rusticated. The building has pitched slate roofs and a prominent three-storey, five-bay front, accompanied by a two-storey wing on the left and a single-storey wing on the right, both designed on a curving plan around a peninsula site.
The main facade is distinguished by a heavy moulded cornice at the top, supported by large bulbous keystones above the upper floor windows. The pediment is flanked by narrow parapets and large square chimney stacks with cornices. A panelled frieze above the ground floor displays the name "STATION HOTEL" in bronze capitals. The second-floor windows are set within coved architraves and feature projecting serpentine sills supported by curved brackets. The first-floor windows are framed by architraves, each adorned with a pulvinated frieze and a small cornice. The ground floor windows have plain reveals and engraved glass, with all windows being sash types. The central entrance door has fielded panels, with the top panel shaped and accompanied by a fanlight. There are four similar bays to the left and four bays to the right, topped with a deep parapet.
