Description

The Former Eastborough County School is a Gothic Revival style building, dated 1879 on its tower. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone and features gabled pitched slate roofs. The building has an ordered asymmetrical massing divided into two stylistic groups: a single-storey section with four bays on the right and a larger section on the left with nine bays, which includes both single and two-storey elements due to the sloping site.

The left part of the facade showcases gabled bays with three-light windows and a large circular window, alternating with bays of triple lancets, and has lower-level six-light mullioned and transomed windows with alternating flat and slightly cambered heads. The 'BOYS' entrance, located in the second bay from the left, is marked by red granite colonnettes and a moulded arch with a carved and panelled tympanum, topped by a tall, octagonal slated spire featuring an elaborate cartouche inscribed with 'EASTBORO' BOARD SCHOOLS' in raised capitals. The upper part of the tower includes a louvred lancet on each face and long stone rainwater chutes.

To the right, the four-bay section has two gabled cross-wings and a central part with triple lancet windows. The cross-wings contain the 'GIRLS' and 'INFANTS' doorways, which are similar to the boys' entrance, and each gable features a traceried circle. The right elevation has five bays, three of which are gabled and resemble those at the front. The rear block of the central part of the school is two storeys high and has four bays of six-light mullioned and transomed windows.

A dwarf wall runs along the front of the property, topped with simple square cast iron railings that return to the school. The entrance is marked by three pairs of square ashlar gabled gatepiers with conical caps.
