Description
Holt Farmhouse and adjoining cottage date from the late 18th century, with the cottage being early to mid 19th century. They now form a single dwelling. The buildings are constructed of hammer-dressed stone, with some quoins. The south elevation of the farmhouse has pronounced ashlar quoins. The cottage’s west gable is rendered, containing an entrance with stone surrounds, which reflects a former internal wall. The cottage has a pitched stone slate roof, while the farmhouse has a pitched slate roof.
The cottage’s south elevation features a 4-light stone mullioned window on the ground floor, a 5-light stone mullioned window above, and a small single light window above that. The north elevation has two later single-light windows on the ground floor, and two 2-light stone mullioned windows on the first floor; the farmhouse north elevation exhibits a former doorway with quoins and tie-stones, a 2-light stone mullioned window on the ground floor and three 2-light stone mullioned windows on the first floor, where the mullions have been removed. Ground and first-floor windows on the farmhouse’s south elevation are recessed and include a 3-light stone mullioned window, a 5-light stone mullioned window on the ground floor, and a 3-light and a 6-light stone mullioned window on the first floor. To the east is a mid-19th century barn, which is not included in the listing.
