Description
Nos 5 and 6 Ainley Place is a late 17th-century building that forms part of a terrace. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone and features a pitched stone slate roof with a gable stack that has water tabling. The building has two storeys, with the ground floor set back to earth.
On the southeast elevation, the ground floor of No 5 has an entrance with a millstone grit surround and tie-stones, while No 6 has an entrance with a millstone grit surround featuring a large lintel and a shallow arch. No 5 includes a three-light stone mullioned window that is double chamfered, and No 6 has a four-light stone mullioned window, also double chamfered.
On the first floor, there is a five-light stone mullioned window. The northwest elevation features a three-light stone mullioned window that is chamfered, and a four-light stone mullioned window, where two of the lights are chamfered and have early glazing, one with squared glazing and the other with diamond glazing.
