Description
Bank Buildings is a large terrace of 34 dwellings, with Nos. 1-22 located at the rear and Nos. 23-34 at the front as underdwellings. Built around 1860 for Charles Brook (Jun.), the building features Tudor detailing. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone with ashlar dressings and has a pitched slate roof with gable copings and stone stacks. The front has three storeys and an attic, while the rear has two storeys and an attic.
The design is symmetrical, with gables at the center, ends, and intermediate points, and gabled dormers in between. The entrances are arched, and the ground, second floor, and attic windows are 2-light, while the first floor windows are 3-light, some with transoms, all featuring chamfered edges. Many of the mullions have been removed. The central bay projects forward and is gabled, with arched entrances on each side and a four-storey ashlar canted bay with arched lights.
The rear elevation mirrors the front, with 2-light windows on the ground floor and attic, and 3-light windows on the first floor, detailed similarly. The central bay also projects forward, featuring a 1st and 2nd floor canted oriel bay with arched lights. A large plaque with raised gothic letters reads: "Bank Buildings".
