Description

Lower Edge Farmhouse, originally a farmhouse and now part of a larger residence, dates back to 1648. It is constructed from deeply coursed hammer-dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. The gable copings are chamfered and supported by cut kneelers, with one finial present. A later central stack is also part of the structure.

The farmhouse is two storeys high, with the main entrance located on the west side near the south gable end. The doorway has chamfered reveals and a Tudor arched lintel. Above the doorway is a highly decorative shield inscribed with "EB IB EB ME 1648," topped with a stepped hood mould featuring decorative stops.

On the first floor, there is a 2-light double chamfered window above the entrance, although the mullions have been removed. The south gable includes a 6-light window, retaining only the king mullion, and a hood mould with one stop remaining. The first floor features a 4-light window, also double chamfered, with two mullions removed and a hood mould.

The side elevation has two round-arched fine windows positioned at a high level, while the ground floor windows have been altered. The north gable has one double chamfered window on each floor; the ground floor window, originally a 4-light with a hood mould, now has all its mullions removed, while the first floor window is a 3-light with one new mullion and a hood mould with decorative stops.
