Description

The farmhouse dates to the mid-17th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble limestone with gritstone dressings, featuring tiled roofs, stone coped gables with finials, and a brick gable end stack. The building has an irregular T-shaped plan. The west elevation displays a doorway, now within a 20th-century part-glazed porch, with a chamfered surround and lintel inscribed "1640/WM SM." Another doorway, featuring a chamfered surround, lintel, and dripmould, is located to the right, with a later half-glazed door. At ground level, a 3-light and a 4-light low recessed chamfer mullion window illuminate the cellar. Above the cellar windows, one altered recessed chamfer mullion window with a dripmould retains one original mullion. The first floor includes a 4-light recessed chamfer mullion window. A later projecting wing features a flush 2-light chamfer mullion window on the first floor with a dripstone, and a similar altered window below. The south gable end shows a ground-floor 6-light recessed chamfer mullion window with a dripmould, a similar 4-light window to the first floor, and a 3-light window in the gable. The east elevation incorporates an off-centre stack with quoins and irregular fenestration, including two 3-light chamfer mullion windows. One of these, originally a staircase window and now blocked, has been reset. A lower, 19th-century brick extension is located at the north end. The loft contains an upper cruck truss with cross lapped face halved apex and collar. Internally, there are timber stud partitions with wattle and daub infill.
