Description
Bradbourne Mill is a watermill dating to the late 18th and early 19th centuries, with 20th-century alterations. It is now used as a cowshed and store. The building is constructed of rubble limestone with a plain tile roof and has a T-plan layout. The northwest range is three storeys high and housed the mill, while a two-storey storage range extends to the south. Much of the 19th-century milling machinery remains in situ, including three pairs of running stones, a hurst frame with belt drives and pulleys, sack-hoist openings, chutes, and hoppers. A 19th-century backshot metal waterwheel with pentroughs is located on the northeast elevation, and the southern elevations feature a variety of irregular openings. The mill is significant as a surviving example of an 18th-century water-powered corn mill. The extensive survival of its machinery is of particular national interest.
