Description
This building is a barn and attached cottage, dated 1854, located 10 meters north of Higher Ashes Cottage in Todmorden. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof. The two-storey single cell cottage features two-light chamfered mullioned windows on either side of the doorway, with a six-light window above. There is a semi-circular arched cart entry with the date displayed on a raised keystone and chamfered jambs. Above this entry is a window with a plain stone surround. A mistal doorway is located at the right-hand end. The building has coped gables with kneelers, and the left-hand gable includes a stack that rises to the ridge. This structure represents a very late example of chamfered mullioned windows and is contemporary with the rebuilding of the north end of the west wing of Higher Ashes Farmhouse, which it resembles.
