Description

Numbers 14 and 15, along with the attached barn, are a house dating from the early 18th century with alterations and an added barn from the early to mid 19th century. The house is constructed of large dressed stone, while the barn features punch-dressed stone. It has a stone slate roof and is two storeys high with two cells. The front of the house has a 19th-century sash window, with a matching window above on the first floor. To the left, there is an inserted doorway next to two double chamfered mullioned windows with two lights, one of which is a fire-window, and above these are a two-light and a three-light chamfered mullioned window on the first floor. The barn to the right has a basket-arched cart entry with an expressed keystone and a window above. There are mistal doorways on each side of the barn with similar windows, and lunettes above, one of which has been extended to form a solid window. The rear of the building has similar windows to the barn and an original doorway to the house with a straight lintel and chamfered surround, located to the left of a two-light chamfered mullioned window with a matching window above on the first floor. The left-hand return wall features a prominent gable with two double chamfered mullioned windows with three lights, above which are two chamfered mullioned windows with two lights that retain their lattice glazing. Inside, one room has a large bressumer (boxed in) resting on posts at either end. The large stone footings and relatively late 17th-century stone details suggest that there may be substantial remains of an earlier timber-framed structure still hidden beneath the current construction. The building has two stacks at the ridge.
