Description
Jasmine Cottage, dating from the early to mid 18th century, is a house attached to No. 4 (Royd Farmhouse) located on the north side of Town Gate in Heptonstall. The building is constructed from hammer-dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. It has two storeys with a centrally placed doorway that has tie-stone jambs and a chamfered surround, which has been blocked to create a window. On either side of the doorway are double chamfered mullioned windows, which originally had six lights on each floor but now lack their original mullions. The building has quoins at the junction with a semi-circular arch that features a two-light window above it. Gutter brackets are present, and the rear of the house has six-light windows on both the ground and first floors, with one window altered to include an inserted doorway. There is a gable stack and another stack in the eastern division wall with No. 4, suggesting that the house may have originally been a two-cell structure. Inside, the fireplace has a deep lintel with a segmental arch supported by corbelled jambs, featuring a cyma moulded surround and a stone shelf.
