Description

A pair of semi-detached houses, dated 1771, stand at Hollings, Heptonstall. The front is built of ashlar, while the sides and rear are of watershot masonry. Features include a chamfered plinth, rusticated quoins, a broad banding course, and coped gables with kneelers. All windows and doorways have projecting stonework. The central paired doorways have monolithic jambs, a pulvinated frieze, and a cornice. Above the doorways is a recessed area containing a plaque carved with the letter "F," and the inscription “T S 1 7 7 1”. Four-light, flat-faced mullioned windows are present on both floors to either side of the plaque. A small single-light window is located to the left of the plaque, and while it appears to be original, it disrupts the building’s symmetry. Number 10 is attached to the left-hand return wall, and the right-hand return wall features a four-light window to the left of the doorway, with tie-stone jambs, alongside two- and three-light windows to the first floor. An oculus is set into the attic, and there are two ridge stacks, one located centrally.
